While the strong links between Australia and Brazil in sectors such as mining and energy are well recognised, it is lesser known that there is a very strong contingent of Brazilian professionals working in construction and design roles right around Australia. Furthermore, in June 2022 the Brazilian government committed $1.3 billion to invest in sustainable infrastructure projects in the country - hopefully Australia can be an important partner in this major new push, with expats in both countries contributing on multiple fronts, thereby further strengthening the Australia Brazil relationship. This networking event, scheduled for Tuesday August 2, will feature insights from key professionals working in the construction and design sectors in Perth and help pave the way for future collaboration. The expectation was that it could be accepted at the current WTO ministerial conference in what is known as the “anti-corruption deal” in global trade rules. But the appetite of industrialized countries is great and demands for further concessions continue. Australia presented new demands last week. One of them is for Brazil to offer access also to bids in construction services of the Ministry of Defense. It also asked the inclusion in the procurement list of the National Nuclear Energy Commission and the Brazilian Space Agency. Brazil had already signaled that it could improve its offer but warned its partners to keep their feet on the ground, because it would not give the full opening demanded by some. The Brazilian Development Bank (Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social - BNDES) launches, on November 18, its Projects Hub. This is a new internet platform to facilitate the connection between national and international long-term capital investors and give direct access to information about the projects conducted by BNDES.
